Before you buy — quick answers
Is it vegan?

Not yet. The soft capsule is made with gelatine from cows, so it's not vegetarian. Gluten-free, no artificial colours. A vegan version is on the way — tell us if you want it sooner.

Any side effects?

Most people notice nothing. The two plant oils can occasionally upset a sensitive stomach — take the softgels with food. Nothing hormonal, nothing to "come off".

Can I take it with the pill?

Yes. A community pharmacist checked the formula for everyday use alongside the combined pill. On prescription medication, pregnant or breastfeeding? Ask your pharmacist first.

How long until I see anything?

Give it 12 weeks — that's how long a new hair takes to show. The first 8 weeks are usually quiet. Take a photo on day one, same light, and compare at week 12.

Is this a subscription?

Only if you want it to be. The refill box (ticked by default) is 17% cheaper and renews automatically — cancel anytime, in one click. Untick it and it becomes a simple one-time purchase; nothing renews.

My bloods came back "normal". Will this still do anything?

That's the most common story we hear. The amount of DHT in your blood is normal — your roots just react badly to it, and a blood test can't see that. The short version.

How does the 90-day guarantee work?

Finish a round. Don't love it? Email us within 90 days of your first order and we refund you. No forms, no photos, no quibble.

Delivery & returns

UK delivery in 2–4 working days. Free on the 3- and 5-bottle packs. Unopened bottles back within 30 days.

Is it a DHT blocker?

We don't make that claim — in the UK no food supplement legally can. What we do: real saw palmetto extract at 320 mg, cold-pressed pumpkin seed oil at 1,000 mg, and zinc, selenium and biotin at full strength — the three that are allowed to mention hair.

The short version

Why your hair is thinning. The short version.

Illustration: DHT is a hormone everyone has; in some women the hair roots react badly to it; so new hair grows back thinner
1Every hair grows from a root.+It grows for a few years, rests, falls out, and a new one starts from the same root. The root decides how thick the new hair is.
2DHT makes sensitive roots shrink.+DHT is a hormone everyone makes, women too. DHT sticks to hair roots. Some roots have more spots it can stick to. Every time it sticks, that root stops growing a bit earlier than it should and comes back a bit smaller.
3A smaller root grows a thinner hair.+And lets go of it sooner. Your hair isn’t falling out more. It’s coming back thinner, every time. That’s the widening parting.
?Why some roots and not others?+It’s in your genes. The roots on top of your head are born with more spots that DHT can stick to than the roots at the back and sides. That’s why hair thins on top and along the parting, never at the back — and why it often runs in families.
?Why did the GP say “normal”?+A blood test measures how much DHT you have, and that is normal. It can’t see how sensitive your roots are. So the test is fine, and your hair still thins.
So what needs to happen? You can't switch the hormone off. You look after the roots instead. They need three things. Next bit.

How it works

Three things your roots need. Most products give one.

Tap one to see what's in HALO Hair for it.

Illustration: when hair thins it gets hit from three sides; most products fight one; HALO Hair covers all three

Two plant oils get in the way, so less DHT sticks to the root: pumpkin seed oil, and saw palmetto (an extract from a berry). Most bottles use the whole dried berry as a powder — much weaker — and don't say how much. We use the real extract, at the amount used in studies, and we print it.

In HALO HairPumpkin seed oil 1,000 mg + saw palmetto extract 320 mg. Both printed on the bottle.

Roots work hard for years and pick up everyday damage — the same kind that ages skin. Vitamin E helps protect cells from it. Almost no hair product has it.

In HALO HairVitamin E 50 mg. It contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Hair is built from protein. Zinc is the builder — without it, no new hair gets made. Biotin is the builder's helper — it turns the food you eat into the stuff hair is made of. Selenium keeps the builder safe while it works. Run short of any of the three, and hair is the first thing your body stops building. UK rules only let a bottle mention hair if it contains a nutrient with a proven role in hair — and only these three qualify.

In HALO HairZinc 10 mg, selenium 55 µg, biotin 100 µg. They contribute to the maintenance of normal hair. Plus B6 and copper.
All three, in two small softgels a day. Every amount printed on the bottle.

The three jobs your roots need — cope with DHT, protect, feed — drawn at the relative size of each
Pumpkin seed oilCope with DHT

Pressed from pumpkin seeds without heat. Helps the roots cope with DHT.

Saw palmetto extractCope with DHT
320 mg

A berry extract that helps the roots cope with DHT. Real extract, not dried-berry powder.

Vitamin EProtect
50 mg

A strong form of vitamin E. Protects the roots from everyday damage.

ZincFeed
10 mgfull daily amount

The builder. Your body uses zinc to make new hair. Most women don't get enough from food.

SeleniumFeed
55 µgfull daily amount

The bodyguard. Keeps the root safe while the new hair is being built.

BiotinFeed
100 µg2× daily amount

The helper. Turns the food you eat into the stuff hair is made of. A little is all you need — not 10,000.

Vitamin B6Feed
1.4 mgfull daily amount

A little helper for hormones.

CopperFeed
1 mgfull daily amount

A little helper for hair colour.

Why these three? Hair is built from protein. Zinc builds it, biotin turns your food into it, selenium keeps the root safe while it's built. Official wording: zinc, selenium and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal hair. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Pumpkin seed oil and saw palmetto are plant oils — we say what's in them, not what they do.
Not inside: iron, collagen, silly amounts of biotin.

Iron only helps if you're low — ask your GP to check. Collagen is nice, but it doesn't do any of the three things above. Too much biotin just ends up in the loo.

Back label of HALO Hair with the full per-2-softgel table
In the UK, a bottle may only say "hair" if it has certain things in it. Ours does. Most pumpkin seed oil bottles don't — so legally they can't say a word about your hair.

Why this softgel is different

Your 12 weeks

Give it twelve weeks. Here's why.

A new hair takes about 12 weeks to grow long enough to see. So nothing can show before then — from any bottle. Here's one woman over 12 weeks — slide through.

Who's behind HALO

Two sisters. One parting.

Ellie and Beth, the sisters behind HALO Hair, at their headquarters
Why "HALO"? The ring of fine new hairs around the hairline. Ellie called it her halo long before we put it on a bottle.

Ellie and Beth are sisters. Both thirty-eight. Same mum, same dad. One of them started losing her hair at thirty-four. The other one didn't.

Ellie did what everyone does. Moved her parting. Biotin. A caffeine shampoo. Rosemary oil. The GP ran her bloods, said "normal", and said "some women just thin". She went home and accepted it.

Beth didn't. She'd spent eight years checking supplement labels for a living — the person who makes sure the number on the bottle is the number in the bottle. She looked at Ellie's drawer and said: "None of these were ever going to work. Half of them can't even legally mention hair."

So she made one. For Ellie. Then for Ellie's friends. Then for their friends. That's HALO Hair. Still the two of them — just a bigger kitchen table.

Good questions

Things people ask before they buy.

How long before I see anything?

Give it twelve weeks — that's how long a new hair takes to grow long enough to see. The first eight weeks are usually quiet. Take a photo on day one by a window, same spot, same light. Compare at week 12.

What does it cost per month?

On automatic refills: £19.99 for one bottle, £13.33 a month on the 3-bottle (12-week) pack, £12 a month on the 5-bottle pack. As a one-off it's £29.99, £20 a month and £18 a month. Refills are cancellable in one click; untick the box and nothing renews.

Can I take it with the pill?

Yes. We had the formula checked by a community pharmacist for everyday use alongside the combined pill. On other medication? Show your pharmacist the back label. It takes them thirty seconds.

Is this a DHT blocker?

We don't make that claim — in the UK, no food supplement legally can. What we do say: the saw palmetto is a real extract at 320 mg, the pumpkin seed oil is 1,000 mg (pressed without heat), and every dose is printed. The nutrients that are allowed to mention hair — zinc, selenium, biotin — are in at full strength.

My bloods came back "normal". Will this still do anything?

"Normal" bloods are the most common story we hear. A blood test measures how much DHT you have, and that's usually normal. It can't see how sensitive your roots are, and that's what thins hair. One thing first: ask your GP for your ferritin number. "In range" can still be low for hair.

What if it's iron, thyroid, stress or postpartum?

Then sort that first — honestly. Ask for ferritin, thyroid and vitamin D. HALO Hair has no iron on purpose: it only helps if you're short of it and can clash with other things. We're for the three routes on this page, not a replacement for a blood test.

I have PCOS. Is it for me?

Many of our customers do. With PCOS, the hair roots often react badly to hormones like DHT — that's the first of the three things on this page. If you take spironolactone or other prescription medication, check with your pharmacist first.

Will it mess with my hormones or give me facial hair?

No. Saw palmetto and pumpkin seed oil are foods, not hormones, and at these doses they're widely used by women. They are not minoxidil — the facial-hair stories you've read are about minoxidil.

If I stop, will my hair fall out again?

That fear comes from minoxidil, which only works while you use it. HALO Hair is a food supplement: it feeds the routes while you take it, and nothing "rebounds" when you stop. Most people who like it simply carry on.

Can I use it with Regaine / minoxidil?

Yes — they do different jobs. Minoxidil works on the surface; HALO Hair works from the inside. Plenty of customers use both.

Why a softgel and not a gummy?

Because the two oils need to be oils. You can't put 1,000 mg of pumpkin seed oil in a gummy — which is why most gummies are just biotin and sugar.

Why no before-and-after photos?

Because we can't stand behind other people's photos, and you shouldn't trust ours. Take your own: week 0 and week 12, same light. That's the only before-and-after that matters.

Any side effects?

Most people notice nothing. Pumpkin seed oil and saw palmetto can occasionally upset a sensitive stomach — take the softgels with food. Stop and speak to a pharmacist if anything feels off.

Pregnant or breastfeeding?

Please don't take it without checking with your GP or midwife first. Saw palmetto is not recommended in pregnancy.

Vegetarian? Vegan? Gluten-free?

Gluten-free, no artificial colours. The soft capsule is made with gelatine from cows, so not vegetarian yet — a vegan version is on the way. Tell us if you want it sooner.

Can men take it?

Yes. The formula is the same; the doses are sensible for everyone. We just built the page for the women who asked first.

Is this an American brand?

No. Made in the UK, labelled for the UK, checked against the UK register of health claims. Most pumpkin seed oil capsules are US imports built for men's prostates.
